Making sure your child is prepared for college is one of the biggest priorities for a parent.  Ensuring that your family is protected no matter where life takes them is our biggest priority.  At Soucy Insurance, we work hard to make certain that your insurance package offers complete insurance protection.

If your child is living in a dorm or off-campus housing it is important to ensure that their possessions are protected.  “Expensive sports equipment, electronics and furniture are increasingly showing up on college campuses today, so parents need to make sure these items are insured,” said Michael Barry, vice president, media relations, for the Insurance Information Institute.

For students residing in dorms, their possessions may be covered under their parents’ homeowners’ insurance.  However, students living in off-campus housing may not be covered under their parents’ homeowners or renters policy.

Additionally, did you know that if your child was driving the family car and is now away at college, at least 100 miles from home, you may be eligible for a policy discount?

There are several insurance considerations that need to be addressed when readying your child, and yourself, for college.  For a complimentary policy review and to speak with one of our experienced agents, please call Soucy Insurance Agency today at 762.2218

After you get through admiring that Valentine’s gift from your sweetheart, consider having it appraised to ensure that your homeowners’ insurance will cover its value.

At Soucy Insurance, our agents can assist you with determining if it is necessary to increase your policy coverage or obtain a separate policy. So the agent can make an informed decision, you should have a list of all of your valuable jewelry, toys, electronics and heirlooms.

When it comes to covering such items, consider:

  • Insuring the valuables with a floater or endorsement if additional coverage is needed.
  • Obtaining store receipts or written appraisals and keeping them with your records to ensure proper replacement value.
  • Storing valuables in a secure location such as a safe deposit box.
  • Keeping an updated video or digital camera inventory of your possessions in your home and in at least one off-site location.

In addition, remember that possessions such as jewelry, art work and collectibles can increase in value so you should check periodically with an agent to ensure you have sufficient coverage.  For more information, call Soucy Insurance at 762.2218.
